Dear all,
Soon it will be Mid Autumn Festival, should be 6th Sept. While everybody remembers the lanterns and the mooncakes, for me, it is my little piggy in the basket cake that I favor most.

I remember my mum would buy them once they are available and will hang them by everyone’s bed till Mid Autumn Festival before the piggies were devoured. Today, I happened to find the most decent piggy-looking pigs, freshly baked some more. (Been looking for a while, most don’t even look like a pig.) And I bought them for my family, each of them would have a little piggy hanging somewhere. I even bought a whole lot for my colleagues. Wah ha ha!
So far, I do not know the origins of these piggy cakes and reasons behind to eat them. But this is my version. If you look at the chinese character of family (jia) “家”, the lower portion is actually the old character for pig. So a pig in the basket more likely symbolizes family. And in the old time, prosperous family have pigs in the house. So eating piggy in the basket probably bring prosperity to family and also brings good fortune to everyone in the family.
So what are you waiting for? Go get your piggy in the basket! Nope! you cannot have mine!
Chen Kee.. Oink! Oink!

More and more creatures can be found at Punggol Beach.
Such as these mollusks, Mr lizard and insects (I wonder what are these?). Saw a couple of kingfisher and a probably a heron or egret.

Let me count… This should be my fifth cleanup.
As a Zone Coordinator, preparation began in July. Schools to call, sites to recce, sites to recce with teacher-in-charge. On the whole, I have been to Punggol beach 3 times and Pasir Ris 3 times as well even before the actual cleanup. Kind of fun. I always discover new thing everytime I went. And this is probably the reason I am still in ICCS. Is it? Neh, most importantly are the people I met and befriended during the entire cleanup.
Like the year before, the mangrove cleanup and the beach were on separate days. At Sungei Buloh (mangrove cleanup), I was one of the trashbag mover. We have to transport the filled trashbag from inside the mangrove to the dump area at the main gate. I remember the days, we have canoes and boat that will transport them out via the waters. We called it the “wet ops”. Now we have “dry ops” aka “sweat ops” where we transport via land. I really need the exercise.
The following week I was at my baby site, Punggol Beach. I remembered doing the recce in 2003. I wonder where is that webpage I did. Hmm…. Punggol Beach is a man-made beach. Now it is a favourite spot for fishing and family outings. The place was littered with a lot of styrofoam embedded in between the rocks. Next year, I would need more help. I hope everybody had their fun. I always do.
Here are some of my photos from both my cleanup.

All the catches of the day at Kranji Buloh!

Washing machine cover to the dump!

Our data manager busy consolidating the datas for Mangrove Cleanup

Satisfied customers at Punggol!

Hmm.. What are those in the bag?

Hmm.. Let me check again…

The end of the day…

Had a walk at Sungei Buloh on 2nd Sept afternonn. Actually I was the designation driver of the day! Just tagging along behind the group that were there for the ICCS 2006 Kranji Mangrove Cleanup briefing.

Anyone can ID this insect! Interesting tail it has!

What if I unwrapped the ant nest? I wonder what it looks like inside…

Dear all fellow fans of Cecilia,
Cecilia was once again admitted to Lim’s Teddy Bear Hospital again yesterday. Due to her chronic pawpad wear-and-tear syndrome, she has to undergo surgery operation on four limbs immediately.
Operation is currently underway and it will take a long one month to complete. Doctor Stupid Kee says he is confident of a successful operation though the risk can be as high as 30 percent of losing any of her limbs. He also declare the new material for her pawpad will last her longer than the current one she have.
In the interview of Cecilia before her operation, she said, “Please look after my stupid fool for the month, he will feel lonely without me. See you again next month.” Giving the fat fool a teary hug before she was push into the operating room.
Let us all wish her a successful operation.
Fatty..

A week before the exhibit at Science Centre closed, I went to Sue the dinosaur!
The largest real size replica of the T-rex fossils ever discovered! For those who missed it, too bad!
I am totally awed by Sue! I felt like a mouse compared to Sue. Everytime I turned my back, I can feel as though she was ready to pounce on me, hot breath down my back. Here are some of the photos taken…

Let my friend take the risk!

While I move as far away as possible!

I better tiptoe away before she discover me!
Chen Kee…Grrrr!
