IA (Industrial Attachment) Part 3: Answers to first questionaire

Wow! Congratulation to November.. She is the winner of the questionaire, since she was the only one that submit the answers and for that she will receive not one but two of my teddybear photos.

Now for the answers for the first quesitionaire:

Ans 1: There are 6 passenger trains in Singapore, excluding Circle Line. Below is the

a) Kawasaki train, North South Line/East West Line, Heavy Rapid Transit

b) Siemen train, Woddlands Extension, Heavy Rapid Transit

c) Kawasaki Nippon Sharyo Joint Venture train, Changi Airport Line, Heavy Rapid Transit

d) Alstom train, North East Line, Heavy Rapid Transit

e) Adtranz train, Bukit Panjang Light Rapid Transit, Light Rapid Transit

f) Mitsubishi train, Sengkang Punggol Light Rapid Transit, Light Rapid Transit

Sorry November, Malayan Rails doesn’t belong to Singapore, I think, so need not answer and no bonus for that even if you do.

Ans 2: North East Line is the first fully automated, which mean driverless, heavy rapid transit system in Singapore.

Ans 3: The current two operators are Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) and Singapore Bus Service Transit (SBST).

Ans 4: 30 to 37 minutes. (November, did you actually took the ride and took down the time?)

Ans 5: The first section in service was on 7 November 1987, North South Line, from Yio Chu Kang to Toa Payoh.

IA (Industrial Attachment) Part 2: Let’s Try Again

Still have to work today. Alternate Saturday off though, which means I won’t work next Saturday..

Where I am having my IA? Actually I’m working in LTA, Rolling Stock. Yup, we produce soup from raw food that has been rolled over.. Just kidding.. The definition of rolling stock is any carriages or vehicles that runs on guideways, tracks or rail.. In other words, trains, locomotives, maintenance, wagons, etc..

Also, I have signed a agreement form not to disclosed any sensitive information.. So I have to be careful with what I say here.. Sorry, no scoop (soup)from me..

Hmm, Let’s try a questionaire and see how well you know about rapid transit in Singapore:

1. Excluding Circle Line, how many different types of passenger train are there in Singapore? Name the train and the service line.

2. What’s the biggest difference of the passenger train of North East Line from the rest?

3. Who are the operators of the Rapid Transit in Singapore?

4. How long does it take to travel from Harborfront to Punggol?

5. Which year did the first MRT line enter service and the number of stations?

You can email me your answers or leave them in the comments.. Person with all correct answers will receive a photograph of my teddybear.. Not bluffing.. Deadline ends tomorrow 11pm..

Answer will be out in IA Part 3..

IA (Industrial Attachment) Part 1: Introduction

No big crowd at the bus-stop.. Surprisingly.. Neh.. It’s already 7.30am and I’m should be late for work..

I realised I never talk much about my IA (Industrial Attachment). Well, sometimes I have to consider the agreement that I signed..

Yesterday went for the University Liaison Officer-meet-IA student session, realised I may have done a lot of stuff during my IA. Someone may see me dumb. (“Pay so little, why do so much?”) For me, I think it’s worthwhile. Everyday and everything I did there, I learnt something new.. Not just about engineering professionalism, also the working life and managing relationships.. Something for the future, something for the current life..

Ponder a lot about my future, career, life, family, friends, my current studies, all sorts.. I may not mature a lot from the IA, I definitely gain more experience.. Sometimes I find myself can’t wait to come out to work..

I believe this could be my best time of my life in Uni..?? Or is it outside Uni..??

Eh?? I didn’t tell you where my IA was? Have to wait for Part 2..

Reflection

Got advice from another perspective. Stating the pros and cons of getting a Phd. Yup! I already have advice from the other side of the coin..

Thinking about what they had said, I realised my decision for my future will depend on opportunities and the life I would like to live..

I just need a happy and harmonious life.. With this I leave you with my conclusion..

The money you need, depends on the things you want.
Happiness, is inversely proportional to the differences of the life you want to live and the life you are living now..
